We at Colorado Pug Rescue are deeply touched by the generous support we have received for the following three dogs. We are so very grateful to the donors who replenish our funds after we respond to emergencies such as these. Thanks to the help of so many of you, we are able to remain prepared for pugs with urgent medical needs.

SPECIAL HELP NEEDED

This is Ancho, a four-year-old porgi (that's half pug, half corgi). Ancho is a super happy, easygoing dog who came to Colorado Pug Rescue with torn cruciate ligaments in both rear knees. This injury renders the hind legs almost useless. Ancho's knees have been repaired in two separate surgeries three months apart. The total cost of these surgeries is $3752. When Ancho's recovery and rehabilitation from the second surgery are complete, he will be able to use his hind legs as if nothing had ever been wrong with them, and he will be ready for adoption.

Cost of Ancho's knee repair: $3752         Raised: $3300

SPECIAL HELP NEEDED

Hi! I'm Kermit. Colorado Pug Rescue doesn't know much about me, but I can tell you I've been through a lot. Thanks to Colorado Pug Rescue, I was able to get a ride from Missouri to Colorado, and I now enjoy my foster family. In addition, CPR is helping me to get lots of medical care that I urgently need. I had such severe arthritis in both hips that the joints were permanently dislocated. Colorado Pug Rescue enabled me to have surgery to restructure those joints and make my hips stable again. Now they are raising money to help pay for my surgery. The vet said it would be about five to six months before I am completely healed from the surgery, but I am doing really well already.

Cost of Kermit's hip surgery: $1500
A very generous donor has stepped forward to pay the cost of this surgery. Merry Christmas, Kermit!

SPECIAL HELP NEEDED

Meet Puggles, a two-year-old boy. He was hit by a car November 4, and his family relinquished him to us late the next night. Puggles had a broken pelvis requiring two surgeries to repair.

One side of Puggles's pelvis has been repaired, and Puggles is expected to make a full recovery from this surgery. He is now recuperating in a foster home. He's restricted to his crate full time but may graduate to an exercise pen after a couple of weeks if he is doing well.

Thanks to all of you for your support and generosity; your donations paid for this first surgery. We're sure Puggles would give you lots of pug kisses if he could!

Needed for repair of other side of hip:  $1300
The balance needed to complete Puggles's treatment has also been generously donated.

Who We Are

Colorado Pug Rescue (CPR) is an all volunteer organization established in 1995 by members of a Denver-area pug dog club who were concerned about the welfare of their breed. CPR works to recover pugs from private relinquishments, shelters, and other sources throughout Colorado and in surrounding states. We network with surrounding states to rescue, medically and emotionally treat, and place pug dogs. CPR maintains a five-member board of directors, several committees and a number of foster homes.

CPR is:

  • Dedicated to the welfare of pug dogs
  • Incorporated as a nonprofit organization - 501(c)(3)
  • Licensed by the State Of Colorado as an animal rescue organization
  • Operated solely by volunteers
  • Supported by the Rocky Mountain Pug Dog Club
  • A member of All Breed Rescue Network of Colorado

Why are Pugs Relinquished?

The general state of the economy, changing lifestyles, and owners who no longer want them or care for them are some of the reasons pugs are given up. Some have a beloved owner who is going into a convalescent facility, a retirement residence or who has died and no other family member wants to care for them. Some rescued pugs are from animal shelters or strays whose owners cannot be found.

Considering a recurring donation? Give conveniently through Network for Good. No amount is too small!

For the first half of 2011, our veterinary expenses averaged $5500 per month

Pugs sometimes come to us injured and debilitated due to abuse, neglect, and human unawareness. Sometimes, they are even relinquished on the spot at a veterinary clinic after receiving a diagnosis of an expensive condition. Because CPR NEVER refuses a relinquished pug no matter his/her physical condition, we may receive pugs requiring tumor removal, leg surgery, eye surgery, heartworm treatment, or even surgery and recovery from accident trauma. Foster pugs can be with their foster families for several weeks while they recover from medical issues or while we strive to help them through retraining issues. Foster pugs with chronic health problems or elderly health issues may spend many months, or even years, in the loving homes of foster parents while CPR pays for all necessary medical costs and living requirements.

Tax-deductible contributions for medical expenses may be given through the Donate button above or sent to:
